WE ARE HAPPY TO SERVE

There are more than 700 ancient sacred sites in the Narmada Parikrama pilgrimage path as mentioned in the ancient Indian text of Skand Purana’s volume of Reva Khand. Of these less than 450 remain in trace. The history and importance of most remains oblivious to the common people by and large, except for those few who have read about them through the Purana or other sources based on  the Purana, or biographies and accounts of pilgrims and sages.  We are doing extensive study of all available known text resources before exploring these sacred places for audio-video documentation of their current profile. In the near future, we also aim to provide some kind of assistance to aid in cause of restoration work of dilapidated teerth sthals, welfare assistance to pilgrims, general assistance to teerth sthals for better management of sacred sites, creating environmental awareness about the river ecosystem,  creating &/or supporting  cleanliness drives, educational support in tribal and rural areas etc. amongst other initiatives.

OUR APPROACH

historical study : Skanda Purana

Made of 81,000 verses, the Skand Purana is named after Lord Skanda (Kartikeya) the son of Lord Shiva and his wife Goddess Parvati. The Skand Purana has vivid tales of important deities of Hindu pantheon such as Vishnu, Shiva, Parvati, Ram, Krishna amongst others. There are numerous different versions of Skand Purana spread over extensive time period written/translated by different authors.

The Reva Khand is the last section of the Skand Purana describing the story of origin of  River Narmada, and the mythic and legendary tales of associated with hundreds of sacred sites that reverberate with energies of spiritual austerities performed there by various gods, goddesses, saints, sages and other celestial beings related.

REGIONS

dakshin tatt

The southern bank of river Narmada is known as the Dakshin Tatt.  It extends from Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh, where the river originates, and culminates at Vimleshwar in Gujarat where it meets the Indian Ocean. Pilgrims cross over by boat from Vimleshwar on Dakshin Tatt to Mithi Talai on Uttar Tatt (southern bank). There are hundreds of teerth sthals along the uttar tatt of Narmada. We have so far covered teerth sthals & annekshtras between Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh to Vimleshwar.
